Originally established as the Agrarian joint-stock malt-house, its production was launched in 1872. However, it burnt down in 1919 and was subsequently sold to Moravia. This export joint-stock company realized extensive reconstruction and modernization. In 1928 full scale operation was started. Unfortunately, another fire destroyed the malt-house shortly before the end of World War II and production could be relaunched only in 1951. Through gradual installation of new technology, production has been increased up to the present level. The malt-house has its own source of water and water purification system. It buys quality malting barley from the Brno region, additionally from the Bohemian-Moravian Highland.
The malt-house was bought by the BERNARD a.s. family brewery in September 2000. The malt-house obtained its new name SLADOVNA BERNARD a.s., závod RAJHRAD (Bernard malt-house, Rajhrad plant). So it has a new owner, name and production plan. Today, it produces approximately 6700 tonnes of pilsner malt, partly used by the Bernard family brewery in Humpolec for brewing its non-pasteurized beer and partly sold to its business partners.
